Digital Art Requirements

If needed, we can generate bar codes for your art. Help avoid barcode problems by making sure they print in black or the darkest possible color. Leave at least 1/8-in. (.125") of white (or light-colored) background. . .“quiet zone” on sides of the barcode knockout area. It’s best if barcodes are not re-scaled or re-sized.

We print at 150-l.p.i., and typically use .0144-in. traps. Other line screens and special trapping solutions are possible.

In addition to four-color process, we use the Pantone Matching System® for spot colors. Please make choices from the Pantone Formula Guide SOLID COATED only.

Please examine your files in “overprint preview” mode. Make sure white or light colors are not set to overprint. White and light colors do not overprint (this also applies to 0-percent black).

File manipulation, changes to artwork, conversion to usable file formats, and art design work at Day Packaging will be charged at a flat rate. Check carefully for spelling and typographical errors. Day Packaging will not be liable for any printing errors if requirements are not met.
Day Packaging printing is computer-to-plate (Heidelberg Prinect system), to 40-inch offset (6-color plus aqueous coating). Off-line UV coating is available. Download guidelines pdf here.

Design Notes/Requirements
All artwork must be produced to fit our die template(s). Please make sure you have a current template. Use .25-in. bleed around die template. Make sure the die line is not embedded in the same layer as your artwork.
Bitmap images should be at least 1200 p.p.i. at full size. Other raster images should be at least 300 p.p.i. at full size. Convert your RGB files to CMYK. We have excellent conversion capabilities, but your own conversion will let you see what you’re submitting. . .in advance.
Include all images and fonts with your artwork. Convert all text to outlines or paths before submission. If there is any possibility text will be edited or altered during development, also send files in the format of the originating program that do not have the text outlined, and send the fonts used in the document.
Along with your artwork, an original color proof MUST be sent to Day. Additionally, we need a PDF of the art file–with template in place–for each job. If at all possible, a full-sized sample (assembled or capable of assembly) of the container should also be sent to Day. If it is not possible to send a full-sized color proof of your artwork on our die line template, send whatever form of proof is possible to indicate positioning, typeface information, etc. Facsimiles (faxes) are not acceptable. Very important: Take care to note where where image areas might conflict with, or be obscured by: a) flaps or edges to be glued, and b) flaps that tuck and are thus are hidden when the carton is in final folded form. You must know how the carton “folds up” before submitting design/art work.
